Beauty Boxes

Battle of the Beauty Boxes: October

All of the beauty subscription boxes are in and I’ve been itching to unbox them to see what I got this month!

Starting with ipsy I got it Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores pressed powder. I tried this product on foundation and it definitely made the makeup matte, and poreless but after a while it started to make the foundation look cakey. I also got Phoenician Secret Scrub in peppermint. Trying this product out it seemed like I was rubbing dry sand on my face and not really exfoliating. I received Peach Hand Cream from TonyMoly and the hand cream smelled deliciously like peaches and was very nourishing. I also got an eyebrow pencil product from a company named hella, as I was testing this product out I realized a great amount of force was needed to get the eyebrow pencil to work. I also got a sample size of Tarte’s lights, camera, lashes mascara. I tested it out and I loved it so much that it might turn into a holy grail mascara for me. The things I really loved from ipsy this month were the mascara and the hand cream because they were great products. Everything else in this subscription this month sadly didn’t work for me. This box is $10 a month!

Moving on. At first glance, this month’s Birchbox seemed dull but after testing out the products, I don’t think it’s too bad! I got Oribe’s Gold Lust dry shampoo, which after using this made my hair feel soft, voluminous and definitely took out any excess oil that was present in my hair. I then got a lip liner from Lipstick Queen in the shade nude. After swatching it, I felt it was more of a rosey mauve color than a nude color, but it was a good long lasting product with great pigment. I also got an Avene hydrating skincare sample, since I have dry skin I was eager to test it out! I found that it made my skin instantly hydrated and I really enjoyed the product, especially for the price point of $25. I received a rose hair and body oil from the company Ouai, since I didn’t think making my hair greasy was a bad idea I decided not to put the oil in my hair. Instead, I applied it to my skin and the product made my skin look supple, and also left behind a nice rose fragrance. Lastly, I received an illuminating glow milk from the company The Beauty Crop in shade Love You So Matcha. Testing it out I noticed that the glow milk is super pigmented, but sadly it took a very long time to dry down and still felt wet as well as oily even after 10 minutes of being applied to the skin. The things I loved most about this month’s Birchbox was the Ouai rose hair and body oil, and Avene’s hydrating skincare sample. This box is $10 a month!

The next box that came this month was the Play! By Sephora box. The bag it came with was super cute this month, and I’ll definitely be using it as a travel makeup bag! If you didn’t know, Sephora gives you 5 deluxe size products a month to test and also a 50 Point card towards your Beauty Rewards, that can be applied with an in-store purchase. The first thing that stuck out at me was Urban Decay’s quick fix hydra charged complexion prep priming spray! I’ve used this previously and loved spraying it before doing my makeup, it really prepped my skin and helped my makeup look more flawless. I also got it Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye illumination concealer in shade Medium. I used a dot on my finger and the product was so thick it ended up being wayyyyy too much under only one eye! It concealed my under eye completely but the product was surprisingly thick so when using this product, a little goes a long way. I also got an additional sample this month of Gucci’s perfume Bloom! I love floral scents and this perfume literally smells like a flower garden, so if you love floral scents, like myself, then this is for you! I also received a deluxe size sample of the Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water and absolutely loved it! I was swatching super pigmented eyeshadows on my arm and this product took it off in one swipe! I also got a deluxe size sample of Make Up Forever’s Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in color 173: Y445 Amber. I used to use this foundation all the time so I know that it has amazing coverage but you’ll definitely need a setting powder for this because it doesn’t dry down quickly and usually stays dewy rather than matte. I also was sent a deluxe size sample of C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum. I was happy after testing this out because I felt that my under eyes were brighter and the normal size product is retailed for $85! The things I liked most about this box were the Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water and the C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum! This box is $10 a month!

And the last box that came in was Boxycharm! As we all know Boxycharm is my favorite and they’ve made me fall in love with their subscription box all over again! I was sent a full size product of the Pore Dermabrasion pore perfecting exfoliator by Dr. Brandt. Testing out this exfoliator, it definitely did a great job getting rid of my dead/dry skin and leaving it feeling silky smooth. I also got a full size tarteist quick dry matte lip paint by Tarte in the shade Pillowtalk. This lippie was a beautiful light nude color. The lippie needed two coats because it was streaky at first application but was better after the second application. I received a lip pencil by Jonteblu in shade 955 Spice, this lip liner was a nice brown shade and works so well for many fall outfits! Next, I was sent an eyeshadow pencil by the company Dirty Little Secret in the shade illusion, which was a really pretty rose gold/bronze shade that would look so stunning in the inner corners of the eyes. And my favorite thing I got in this month’s Boxycharm was the Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Prosecco Pop. It’s a beautiful gold shade and it is also a full size product! In this subscription box I liked all of the products! This box is only $21 a month!

Out of everything I was sent this month the winner had to be Boxycharm, I really feel that even though it is more expensive than the rest, you definitely get your money’s worth! Plus, Boxycharm has been sending amazing products!

Let me know in the comments below what your favorite box and product was for this month!

PS I will be doing a giveaway this month so make sure you keep checking for a post within the next two weeks that explains what is being given away and how you can enter to win! 🙂

-Stay Chic,

Stephanie Russell
